Federal employees at the IRS Atlanta Campus in Chamblee, Georgia are being forced to report to the office while rats run rampant and cockroaches infest the work areas. Employees are made to endure desks covered in rat urine and feces. NTEU is calling on the IRS to close the Atlanta Campus immediately while it takes action to eradicate the severe rat and cockroach infestation.
Many employees have health conditions and care for children or elderly parents and are fearful about what illnesses they may bring home to their loved ones. Employees have reported that the Agency has been slow to respond, some even saying that agency management was openly joking about the infestation. This lack of action and respect for employee safety has forced some to leave the agency. Other employees have contacted OSHA and the Department of Labor for help.
We urge the IRS to close the office while corrective measures are taken and to restore full telework to the Atlanta Campus so employees can continue to perform their work in a safe and healthy work environment.
