No Small Issues at the Bargaining Table

NTEU bargains over some of the biggest issues impacting employee work lives—from awards and leave to fair performance reviews and promotions procedures. But that doesn’t mean the small stuff slips by. After all, the small things can make a big difference.

At Customs and Border Protection (CBP), for example, NTEU secured an agreement on the agency’s rollout of tablets for CBP Officers. This follows an earlier agreement regarding tablets for Agriculture Specialists. Introducing new, mandatory technology in a workplace can understandably create anxiety for some employees and lead to questions about its use and impact. That’s why NTEU is there to make sure employees have the support and resources they need to continue to be successful at their jobs.

At CBP, that meant making sure all bargaining unit employees receive training on the tablets. NTEU negotiated provisions ensuring that when employees are not working, they are not required to carry their tablets and CBP may not use the devices to track them or their work hours. The agency may not use any cameras installed in the tables to watch employees, either.

When there’s something new that impacts your everyday work life, it’s a big deal. That’s why NTEU is at the bargaining table everyday on behalf of those we represent.
