One day after Chapter 284 (IRS Atlanta Campus) members rallied to expose a severe rat infestation to the media and Georgia lawmakers, the IRS agreed to restore telework for some employees at the Chamblee Campus. However, NTEU’s work continues to ensure that all impacted IRS employees have safe and healthy working conditions.
NTEU led a multi-pronged campaign on Capitol Hill and in the media, drawing attention to IRS’s failure to provide a safe and healthy work environment and refusal to restore full telework to the Atlanta Campus while the IRS addresses the problem. At NTEU’s urging, Sens. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA), along with Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and IRS CEO Frank Bisignano echoing our demands.
IRS’s solution? Move some employees from one rat-infested office to another—plus, the facility is also known for water leaks, mold, roaches and water bugs.
The Chamblee building is now temporarily closed thanks to NTEU action. NTEU will continue to keep our congressional allies and the media informed to expose the IRS’s general lack of care and attention to its employees and facilities.
We urge our members in Georgia to reach out to your elected representatives and ask them to join us in holding the IRS accountable.
