Late Friday, House Republican leadership refused to bring up a vote on the Senate-passed deal to fund most of DHS for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Instead, they approved a continuing resolution (CR) that would extend current funding levels for all of DHS for 60 days before adjourning for the two-week recess, even though the Senate has repeatedly failed to have the votes to pass similar efforts and had already left town for the recess.
The Senate bill, which passed by unanimous consent, would have funded DHS except Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol (BP), ensuring nearly all DHS employees represented by NTEU would be paid. ICE and BP would have continued operating using funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The House and Senate aren’t scheduled to return to Washington until April 13. This is unacceptable. Urge your members of Congress to return to Washington, end this shutdown and ensure that all NTEU CBP and FLETC employees receive their pay.
