NTEU Congratulates Rep. Hoyer on His Retirement

NTEU congratulates Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer (D) on a decades-long career of fighting for working families and supporting federal employees and their workplace rights. The two-time House Majority Leader announced today that he will retire from Congress at the end of his term.

The third-longest serving member of the House boasts a 100 percent lifetime voting record on NTEU issues. Over the years, Hoyer fought for fair pay raises, improved benefits, adequate agency funding, paid family leave, expanding telework and alternative work schedules, and ending government shutdowns. At the same time, Hoyer staunchly defended collective bargaining and federal retirement against attacks.

Hoyer has been a fixture at NTEU’s annual Legislative Conference, addressing members and speaking out at rallies supporting federal employees. He frequently praised federal employees for their contributions to our country and defended their work against attacks. For standing in solidarity with NTEU and his dedication to federal employees, he was awarded an honorary NTEU membership in 2024. NTEU and our members will miss this champion for federal workers and their unions, and we wish Hoyer health and happiness in his much-deserved retirement.
