Most Americans Say Cuts to the Federal Workforce Are Harmful

A majority of Americans believe the Trump administration’s changes to the federal workforce are bad for the country, according to a new poll.

The survey by the Partnership for Public Service found 59 percent described the changes as negative, a strong sign that the public is unhappy with the dramatic staffing losses in many federal agencies.

When asked if the federal government is operating better or worse than one year ago, 58 percent said it is worse; 26 percent said it was better; 16 percent didn’t know or didn’t answer.

“One conclusion is clear, however.  Regardless of survey wording—or whether the question was asked six months ago or just recently—roughly twice as many Americans are troubled by the direction of the federal government than are supportive,” according to the Partnership for Public Service’s analysis of the results.
