More Americans are noticing the impact of cuts to the federal government than six months ago, according to a new report from the non-partisan Partnership for Public Service.
In a new survey, the Partnership found 46 percent of respondents knew someone personally impacted by the Trump administration’s cuts to government programs and the workforce, up sharply from 29 percent in March.
“The fact that about half the country says they are noticing the impact suggests the issue is not just an inside-the-Beltway story. Rather, people around the country see how such changes are affecting their communities and lives,” the report states.
The negative impacts most noticed were lost federal government jobs and decreased access to government services.
The survey was taken before the record 43-day shutdown.
“As more reductions are made and the impact becomes more obvious in the months ahead, the role of public opinion may become more important as lawmakers and federal agencies react to changes,” according to the Partnership.
