Both proposed Continuing Resolutions (CR) to extend government funding and avoid a shutdown have failed to pass.
Congress was scheduled to return from next week’s recess on Monday, September 29 with two days before the beginning of FY 2026 to prevent a government shutdown.
However, to force the Senate to agree to their CR proposal without further negotiations, Republican leaders in the House just announced that the House will not be in session on September 29 or September 30 ahead of the funding deadline.
