Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers and members of Chapter 116 (CBP Arizona) at the Port of Lukeville recently seized more than 1,000 pounds of fentanyl, making it the largest singular fentanyl seizure in the agency’s history.
While inspecting a pick-up truck hauling a sport recreation vehicle, CBP Officers noticed anomalies throughout the frame of the trailer. With the assistance of a CBP canine team, officers discovered 234 packages of drugs concealed within the frame of a trailer. The packages contained approximately 4 million blue fentanyl pills.
Officers at the same port seized about 270 pounds of methamphetamine several days later. The estimated street value for these two seizures is more than $12.6 million.
“As it happens, Lukeville is my home port and I’ve had the distinct pleasure of working with all of the officers involved,” said Chapter 116 Treasurer Kolin Chandler. “A fantastic achievement and a testament to the incredible hard work and dedication being shown in Lukeville.”
NTEU thanks our members for their work in keeping our communities safe and we will continue advocating for more CBP staffing to stop illegal drugs from entering the country.
