Congress Slowly Moving Appropriations Bills

With 17 days until the current continuing resolution expires, the House and Senate are slowly moving funding bills.

Currently, the Senate is considering a minibus appropriations package with funding levels consistent with those in the debt limit deal passed earlier this year. The funding package passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on a strong bipartisan basis.

The House passed four of the 12 appropriations, but with significant funding cuts beyond those in the debt limit agreement and controversial policy riders. The bills have had very little bipartisan support.

Newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) voiced support for a CR through mid-January or mid-April with “certain conditions” to give lawmakers more time to negotiate 12 separate funding bills.
