Reardon Warns of Conspiracy Against Civil Service

National President Tony Reardon took on the biggest threat he sees affecting the federal workforce: the accelerating conspiracy to dismantle the merit-based civil service.

In an op-ed published in The Hill, Reardon warns that there are forces actively plotting to dismantle the nonpartisan federal workforce and replace it with one that is loyal to the next Republican president, rather than the Constitution that every federal employees swears an oath to uphold.

“This is an assault on the basic structure of our federal government,” Reardon writes. “If given the chance to remove the basic due process rights of career civil servants, an autocrat could bend a workforce of 2 million employees to his will, plow through all guardrails, ignore Congress, and turn the federal government into a giant political weapon fueled by patronage.”
