Chapter 138 Helps Community with Blood Drive

Chapter 138 (CBP Northern New York) has stepped up to help alleviate a national blood shortage by hosting three successful blood drives—and counting.

“It has always been important to our members that we participate and help our local communities as much as we can,” said Chapter 138 President James Secore.

The blood drives are just a part of that effort. Since last summer, the chapter has teamed up with the Adirondack Regional Blood Center to host three blood drives with strong participation. Collectively, around 40 donors attended the chapter’s drives with more than 35 units of blood donated. The chapter plans to continue hosting the blood drives on a regular basis going forward.

The American Red Cross announced earlier this year that the nation is facing its worst blood shortage in more than a decade, citing a drop in blood drives during the pandemic.

“Many of our members also serve as volunteer EMTs, firefighters and first responders, in addition to our frontline work as CBP Officers and employees. Many of those members have seen tragedy happen to family, friends and neighbors. We know and understand the importance of having blood donations available,” Secore said.
