The Senate has confirmed two of President Biden’s nominees to the three-member Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), restoring a quorum and allowing the MSPB to begin issuing decisions again.
The nominees, Raymond Limon and Tristan Leavitt, were supported by NTEU.
The MSPB lost its only Senate-confirmed board member in early 2019 and has not had a quorum on its board since January 2017, leading to a backlog of more than 3,400 cases.
NTEU has spoken out about how this has impacted federal employees and agencies waiting for decisions.
The MSPB plays a key role in ensuring a federal workforce where everyone is treated fairly and has the same opportunities. Among other things, the independent agency is charged with upholding the merit system for the federal workforce and ensuring that employees are protected against whistleblower retaliation.
Now that the MSPB has once again obtained a quorum, the Board can begin the slow process of going through the backlog and ensuring fair and impartial adjudication of employee claims.
