Congress Must Act by Friday

At this time, the current continuing resolution (CR) is set to expire at midnight Friday. If Congress has not passed, and the administration has not enacted, either an omnibus or another CR by Friday night then a lapse in appropriations would occur triggering a shutdown.

Congress is still working to finalize an omnibus spending bill that will fund the federal government for the remaining six months of FY 2018, but has not yet released the bill. It is reported that there are outstanding policy items that need to be resolved. An omnibus spending bill may be released soon, allowing time for Congress to act before the deadline. However, lawmakers may also act on a potential short-term CR and remain in session this weekend.
