A Labor Recognition Week Message from President Reardon

NTEU members

Every day NTEU members are on the frontlines serving our country, keeping it safe, helping citizens and keeping our economy strong. All of this happens through the dedication and commitment of federal employees who believe public service is a calling.

It is hard to capture all the contributions you make but every American is aided by your work. Many in our country are unaware of all you do but NTEU is very aware. During Labor Recognition Week we take time to celebrate what you do and to say thank you. Thank you for being a federal employee. Thank you for focusing on your work during a distracting time. Thank you for being a member of NTEU and helping make federal workplaces better for employees and the public.

I encourage you to take time this week to recognize all you do and how all the work of employees across the government makes this country, and our union, stronger. There are many instances of extraordinary efforts and successes made by NTEU members. I hear them every day. Here is one I would like to share with you.

An NTEU member working for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Puerto Rico was offered a bribe to look the other way as human traffickers moved illegal goods and people across the border. He notified authorities and undertook a dangerous undercover operation that helped shut that down and put members of the illegal operation behind bars.

Your story may not seem as dramatic as that one but what you do matters to our country. Each of you has a story to tell and I encourage you to tell your story this week, and every week, and celebrate frontline federal employees.

It is an honor to represent you. I hope you have a great Labor Recognition Week.

Tony
