Message from the National President

Standing up for what you believe in is never easy. But joining with others and speaking out is always the right thing to do. Forty-five years ago more than a quarter of a million people marched in Washington demanding jobs, freedom, equality and more. NTEU honors their actions and recognizes their strength.

It is a similar strength that drives NTEU members, who also join together and speak out, fighting for dignity and respect in the workplace for all federal employees.

This is the power of collective action and this year, during Black History Month, NTEU pays tribute to African-American workers who banded together and worked, with one voice, to bring positive change. Their early actions helped pave the road for NTEU to be a force in the federal workforce, and we thank them.

Working together, gathering together, speaking out together. Collective action is a timeless reflection of just demands that cannot be suppressed; of deeply-held convictions that cannot be ignored; of the voices of the many speaking as one.

African-Americans, whose heritage, accomplishments, vision and strength we celebrate during Black History Month, and the men and women of organized labor—of all races and creeds—know well the power of collective action. At NTEU, we are prepared to continue in the footsteps of those who came before us, always recognizing that our accomplishments are possible because of those who led the way.
