Gerry L. White
A Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard – 1st Battalion, 141st Infantry regiment stationed in San Antonio, Texas – Gerry L. White enlisted in 1989 to help pay for his college education at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, as well as to travel the world.

The experience of serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, along with the excitement of meeting new faces, seeing new places and doing new things was something White said he couldn’t pass up. “You never know when a new opportunity may present itself,” he said of his guard duty.

From the wide open spaces of Texas, White’s tour of duty so far has taken him halfway around the world and back as a combat medic/trauma specialist, including to the deserts of Iraq, where he served from December 2004 to January 2006. “My job is to keep them [wounded soldiers] alive until I can get them evacuated to the hospital for greater medical attention,” said White, who also is a national registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Before White joined CBP in 1998 as a Customs Inspector, he got a brief preview of life in the CBP by serving with the Guard on an U.S. Customs Service task force near the U.S.-Mexico border.

White has been an NTEU member since 2004 and said he values its support. “NTEU does good things,” he said. “They defend us and advise us, not to mention if you have an altercation with management, NTEU is there for you.”

White is married to Monica Uribe-White. They have four children.
