The External Organizing section explains the NTEU organizing
philosophy and updates the status of ongoing external organizing
campaigns.
In the NTEU Mission Statement, our mission is "to organize federal
employees to work together to ensure that every federal employee
is treated with dignity and respect." With 60 years of experience
representing federal employees, NTEU knows that the strength of
our union is linked directly to our ability to influence workplace
decisions which have a direct impact on your day-to-day work life.
In addition, we know that the strength of our union is also linked
directly to our ability to influence Members of Congress and the
Administration concerning your pay, benefits, retirement and working
conditions. Consequently, at NTEU, we continuously strive to build
our union and increase our strength by adding federal employees
to the NTEU family.
In accomplishing our goal, NTEU understands the importance of
reaching out to employees who do not have the perks of NTEU representation.
To that end, our Organizing Department solicits inquiries from
federal employees regarding NTEU representation. Once we determine
that it is feasible, we begin an external organizing campaign
with the goal of petitioning the Federal Labor Relations Authority
for a representation election to elect NTEU as the exclusive representative
in the workplace.
In order to win a representation election, NTEU organizers work
as a team with employees of the agency the campaign is taking
place in, to create an Organizing Committee, made up of employees
within the workplace, which communicates the benefits of NTEU
representation to all employees. For more information about the
representation election process, click
